Wings of Hope Hospice Volunteer Opportunities Wings of Hope has opportunities for volunteers ranging in age from teens to senior citizens and pledges to constructively utilize the time and talents each brings. Support for patients. This can include visiting, reading, taking walks, writing letters, bringing in music, supervising visits with pets, even massage therapy for volunteers with the necessary skills. Respite and support for family members. Volunteers can assist with shopping or household maintenance, or allow family caregivers the opportunity to take care of errands and get some time away from the house. Special circumstances could require the help of a skilled tradesman, such as an electrician, or a handyman. Grief support. Hospice volunteers can work closely with our professional grief support staff by assisting as a support group facilitator, befriending a hospice family, or helping with mailings to families. Fundraising and administrative work. A volunteer with clerical skills can help with simple office tasks, organizing fundraising events or contracting possible donors. Inputting computer data is also needed. G.A.P.S., Giving Assistance, Providing Support Pilot. The volunteer assists by performing a variety of practical tasks, including yard work, household chores, errands, and transportation, and companionship to the chronically ill. Three hour training is provided where you live as requested and tailored for the area of volunteerism. Age restrictions apply in some circumstances. Other - please tell us in comments below Comments:	Patient/Family Volunteer training prepares volunteers to support patients and families, offering respite to families and companionship to patients. Patient care volunteers are provided a 25 hour training where each discipline is addressed. Grief Support staff, the Social Worker and an RN each provide a class to prepare the volunteer. Training is held in the spring and fall of each year. Check with the Volunteer Coordinator for dates. An interview and background check are required.
