Grief Support Services offered by Allegan Hospice

The death of a loved one can be the greatest pain people face. The grief we experience in response is a normal and natural reaction to that loss. And the way we grieve is as unique as each individual is unique. Many worry that their feelings and reaction are not normal or natural. To understand the differing ways grief affects one's life - physically, emotionally, and spiritually - helps one to understand their unique grief. There is no predictable pattern or time frame. It is a process that does not occur in any set order.

The Wings of Hope Hospice Grief Support services aid this journey. Grief Support services are offered at no charge to all persons in our community who are grieving.

Family Grief Support

Family Grief Support is a program of intensive support to families of hospice patients during the 13 month period following the death of their loved one. Individual sessions, group activities (as listed below), and periodic mailings throughout the 13 months provide an extra measure of support. If a grieving person wishes to continue grief work following the 13 month service period, grief support remains available indefinitely.

Grief Volunteer Support

Grief Volunteer Support is available to all hospice families who choose this extra support from a trained hospice volunteer.

Growing Through Grief

Growing Through Grief is a five-part educational series designed to help adult participants understand the grieving process.

Grief Support Groups

Grief Support Groups include ongoing, drop in support groups offered at locations throughout Allegan County.

Holiday Workshops

Holiday Workshops are offered for adults coping without a loved one during the holiday season.

Annual Remembering Service

Annual Remembering Service is an event for hospice families and hospice team members to grieve together while remembering those they have lost.

Community Educators

Community Educators are available to speak to your civic, business, or church group on coping with grief and/or ways to support others in grief.
